On behalf of the Brawijaya University representation delegation of “International Conference On Construction Industry, Facilities, and Asset Management” (ICCIFAM 2012) please allow us to give thank you, Ir. H. RB. Ainurrasjid, MS as 3rd Deputy Rector of Brawijaya University, Ir. Ari Wahjudi, MT as 3rd Deputy Dean of Engineering Faculty, Ir. Dwi Priyantoro, M.S. as Chairman Major of Water Resources Engineering, Dr. Eng Donny Harisuseno, ST. MT as Secretary Major of Water Resources Engineering, and all the people who support us to participate as a presenter in this conference.
This conference is truly international conference, since it hosted by three universities, namely: Andalas University, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, and Deakin University, Australia. The guest speakers also come from several countries such as: Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia, and other countries, and attended by participants from various countries, such as: Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the United Arab Emirate, India, the United States of America, Iran, and the Philippines.
The theme of this conference is: Managing assets and infrastructure in the chaotic global economic competitiveness. This event is held in order to promote, increase, and contribute to the scientific world, as we all know that science is developing over time, it makes the needs for fostering and discussing it. This event is one of the ways to foster and discuss it so that the development of science, especially in the field of construction industry, facilities and asset management can be done and achieved.
Global population that continues to grow significantly had increased the demand in resources. On the other hand, the availability of natural resources is limited, where two-thirds of the world's ecosystems are currently decreased on quality or utilized without can be recycled. Principles of sustainable development is a concept of economic development where the using of resources intended to meet human needs while maintaining balance and sustainability of environment, which will be able to meet the needs of the present and future generations.
Asset management, sustainable facilities and infrastructure have emerged as important issues affecting the global economic order. Issues such as climate change, energy scarcity, spatial and facilities, food security and poverty have forced the world to revitalize the concept and the optimal order of development, responsible and sustainable.
Rio De Janeiro Earth Summit has agreed on the concept of Green Economy, which is the economic concept of green / environmentally friendly as a follow-up management of sustainable development and poverty reduction over the world. Rio +20 Summit has declared a new document of sustainable development under the title The Future We Want for a long time perfecting the document Our Common Future, which was declared the 1992 Earth Summit.
The topic has become an important topic for discussion because of the long-term expectations and requirements in the future is strongly influenced by the ability to manage resources at this time. Comprehensive governance of infrastructure and energy is directed to encourage economic growth significantly. In the end it will be able to realize the economic competitiveness of effective, efficient and sustainable. Development that delivers on-going value of benefits expected to improve the global economy program as well as reducing global imbalances is happening.
